The hounds here at Selah welcome you to our site!
Selah, found in the Book of Psalms, is an exclamation that we should pause, reflect, and listen to what God is telling us. For several years now I have been voluntering with my hounds in Pet Therapy through Hand In Paw , a subchapter of the national Delta Society. Through countless hours of volunteering with Animal Assited Therapy and Animal Assisted Activities, I have often paused and reflected on just what all God has done for me. He has generously blessed me with some very wonderful hounds.
We are located in the Heart of Dixie, Alabama, just north of Birmingham. Occassionally you might see us at shows, coursing trails, or straight racing having fun, you will more likely see us at the local hospitals or South Eastern Elementary school where we'll be curled up on a mat reading a book with a child.
Our beginnings started with a Greyhound, Twilite Crash CGC,ThD, who taught me the joys of a Sighthound, and the unexplainable joys of working with children through Pet Therapy. Following Crash were several other wonderful Greyhounds who became the "founding fathers" of my kennel - CBD Therapy Dogs. You see, it was named for them - Crash, Colt, Birch, Biznes, Baryshinkov (aka Misha Moose), Dynasty, and finally Drumm. Now days, my only survivor is now Drumm, my heart hound. Old age has taken the others from me, but they have left a legacy that will never be forgotten.
So why the Sighthounds? Why these three breeds? Though our beginnings start with Greyhounds, they will never be forgotten! I work with the adoptable hounds at the McGregor Greyound Welfare Center, as well as volunteer for the Saluki Tree of Life Alliance (STOLA), National Borzoi Rescue Foundation (NBRF), and Afghan Hound rescue. My first Borzoi, Po Dusham Baryshinkov ThD, SD, CGC, aka Misha Moose, was the one who spoiled me. Though he was my Therapy Dog, he was my mom's Service Dog, alerting her to seizures. Thanks to him, I drove several hundred miles to get Drumm, Cazimir's Different Drumm ThD, SD, AACR, CGC. From Drumm, I was introduced to the joys of Saluki and Silken Windhounds. Through the years I have had many breeds, however it is the Borzoi, Saluki, and Silkens who have touched my heart the most. The Borzoi, who are elegant, easy going, willing to do anything I ask of them, and true gentle giants of the hound here, have been a great joy to my heart. The Saluki, regal, "monkeyish", talkative, clownlike, and always finding ways to make me smile, have been able to keep me on my toes to keep up with what they're doing this time. The Silken Windhounds, smaller, willing to do anything asked of them, always grinning, the first to greet any new friend as they know no "stranger", have made the perfect partner for pet therapy. These breeds have fitted my lifestyle wonderfully, and have been a joy to work with
